2007 Ion 2 Stuck CV Axle
#3
Thank you for sharing! I watched the video and still can not get it out! The way it's set up, it is impossible for me to access the axle, especially with tools, from underneath and behind. I don't see a clip or anything that can be removed to release it either. I put the car in neutral and it seems like it wants to come out, but will not. I attempted to jiggle it back and forth and it turns to the right but not the left. This is driving me nuts. All of the videos I have watched make it looks so easy. The axles literally just pop out with a little pressure using a pry bar.

You are trying to remove the axle from the transmission, right? I was confused by the the statement "turns to the right but not the left". The axle is kept in position by a 'c' clip around the inner spline which snaps into a relief in the splined socket in the differential. See the replacement axle for example.
Please clarify what type transmission you have (automatic or manual) and which axle is giving you problems. Confirm that you have dismantled the front suspension far enough that the axle is free on the outboard end.

Yes, I am trying to remove the axle from the transmission. After I put the car in neutral, I was able to turn the axle to the right.. for instance, as if I'm screwing it in.
The transmission is automatic. It is the front passenger side. The axle is free from the outboard end. I attached pics.

I, myself, have definitely put more than a little pressure!!! I actually hope I haven't damaged anything else in the process of trying to get it out! The videos I've seen, however, are a different story..

Good pictures! See this video of the passenger side axle being removed from a Chevy HHR (same setup as your Ion). According to RockAuto, your axle has a stub shaft at the inboard end. This is covered in the video. You will note in the video that the mechanic is using a pretty heavy hammer with considerable force to separate the components. So keep at it! Don't be afraid to whack it good! You'll get it done.
