I think I need a new key, derf. When I put gas in it last week, the key didn't want to turn. I pulled it out, flipped it over and it started just fine. After gassing up, I had to do the same thing again. The steering wheel was straight and not in a bind, so I'm wondering if I get a new key cut if that'll help any.

Here's a video for a 2001. It's definitely different than the 90's models. I'd think the 02 would be similar.

OP
Go to home Depot and get a small tube of carbon powder. Pump some into the ignition to lubricate it put a tiny bit on the key and work it in and out. That should help you determine whether the cylinder and switch still work. If so, get a new key cut from the VIN.

RubeTurn the key to on.
On the top left of the dash, watch the service light. Not the SES light, the service light above it.
When this service light turns off, crank the engine.
It will start 99% of the time doing so.

97 fuel pumps have an issue where they excessively bleed off fuel pressure. I use this method to start the car b c it corresponds to exactly the right fuel pressure. Figured it out by trial and error.

I don't have a problem starting it, derf. I actually remembered the procedure you told me. Sometimes the key just won't turn. I have to take it out, flip it and then it'll start. It's happened 4 times so I'm thinking maybe I just need to get a new key made.

Ok.

I'll send you a few of those funky blanks I have. They are the correct blank for the key, but they do not have the plastic head that says Saturn. Instead it is inscribed on the I'm getting my garage floor epoxied in a week and most of the garage is in the basement but I'm pretty sure where it just landed so I will look today.

Can you post me a picture of the back of the fob, please?

I'll PM you a picture. It'll be much easier for me to do it from my phone.
