Default Thermostat questions...Need help

My Temp gauge in my 97 SL1 is hanging at Cold. Wont go above C. Troubleshooting tree said "thermostat stuck open" so I Changed the thermostat yesterday and it still hangs up at Cold.
Troubleshooting tree said to feel the main coolant line running to thermostat and if it is hot it is working as normal. Felt pretty hot to me. I really dont think I got a bad thermostat as this is the 2nd one I've changed. Still got the first one. Someone said you can put it in boiling water to make sure its working as advertised. This true?? Also...any other suggestions? Could my gauge be toast???

Your temp guage is not moving because you need to replace your cooling temp sensor $10 at parts store $35 for oem at saturn does the trick.
