Replacement of the lock cylinder isn't that difficult. I did mine last year. You can go to any GM dealer with your registration and get the tumbler code to set the new lock cylinder to your old key. There are instructions available. Pretty straight forward.

Keep in mind, keys also wear down too. Sometimes the issue can be fixed with a new key.
