99 SL2 Vibration/rattle & P0440 code
Engine runs good but has a pretty bad rattle, especially with the a/c on. Suspect it could be the tensioner, but it seems ok with the belt off. Don't think its the chain since recently had off and doesn't appear stretched or worn. Also have general vibration, but I've checked the top and transmission motor mounts and they do not appear to be bad. Final problem is trouble code P0440 which keeps coming back after only one drive cycle. Cleaned EGR valve twice but didn't solve problem.
General Vibration
Replace top pass motor mount for starters (especially if you never have)--these wear out with time -- these engines shake a whole hell of a lot. Be sure to use new mounting studs and do not overtorque or they will twist right off.
Other vibration -- not enough info for me to do anything other than guess at. Is SES light on?
P0440
