just a follow up on my 99 saturn... I changed the ECTS and right off the bat i notice idle is 200 rpm lower and seems to run smoother. I havent taken it for a drive yet, but I think this might have been my issue... thanks guys for the help, without your help, I might have spent hundreds of dollars for a $10 problem. Thanks again!

 

Glad you are back on the road -- just be sure to reconnect your wiring for the radiator cooling fan ....

 

Well I replaced the ECTS and temp sensor behind it and the car still won't start!
Does anyone recomend checking anything else?

Ok.. after replacing both the Ects, the other coolant sensor, cleaning the throttle body out really well and sticking a wrench into it to keep it open, it finally started.
Now the cooling fan never seems to come on, the car does not start back up until it has cooled back down... I tried the ac trick that I read in another post and the fan does not come on! I checked all fuses and wires going to it.... next i'm going to use a jumper wire from the battery directly to the fan and do the same for the ground.
I only let it run long enough to let the temp guage go half way.
Also when it's running it still idles high and low and sometimes sounds like it wants to die.

well i had issues with my fans and derf informed me that these s cars the fans dont kick on untill the third line did you replace the leads to your ects?

 

also u said your fan wires were cut befor and you fixed them i would sugest pulling a part your fix and jusf see if they work and if they do id say replce the relay
