Default 93 Saturn SL2 Automatic transmission

Bought the car two years ago, it had the reverse slam and unknowingly there was a radiator leak which was mixed with the tranny. I performed the quick reversed slam cure and tightened the input shaft but as well as a flush. Nothing stopped the reverse slam but I'm conditioned to taking it easy on the pedal. It only does it once the engine is hot. The vehicle ran and shifted great until one day it went into limp mode on a bridge; after that it didn't happen for another year. Now it has shown the transaxle codes for 23, 24. Once it gets hot if it is not driven carefully the 23 will light up and the engine will rev to 4/5. I'll need to play with the throttle and brake to help it shift. I checked the actuators resistance, they were all precisely at 5.8 - 6. When I do the audible PCM check they all have pretty much a different sound. Once, the other day none of them were audible. I changed the trans fluid today and saw that the Turbine Speed Sensor had transmission fluid in the connector and the wire near the connector was bare exposing the copper.
In the manual it mentions that a code 23 will appear with a 24 if there's a Hydraulic leak in the forth clutch.

What do you guys think?

Your seals are going bad. Needs a rebuild.

What exactly does that entail? After looking further into it I think the sensor was simply drenched at one point but it is not “leaking”. As far as I can tell it has never had a leak, the fluid remained at the same level for 2 years; it was definitely due for a change.
The guy I bought it from said he put a new trans it for the reverse slam which didn’t work for him by the way. I don’t know if that involved the valve body or not, or the sensors. I’m planning on trying to use some trans tune to clear out the passage ways before taking the valve body off. I cleaned the tss plug and covered the exposed wires and it is shifting nicely so far.

There’s also a ticking/knocking noise coming from the injectors, it’s a tick with the naked ear and a deep knock with the stethoscope. Is that the knock sensor?

If you get glycol in the tranny your seals are going to fail. You have to tear it down.

Did you fix that bare copper wire? It might be causing a ground that you don't need.

I fixed the wire and cleaned the connectors. In terms of rebuild should I look into getting a gasket and seal kit with just the seals?

You'll want to get the clutches replaced as well.

The transmission is likely original (31 yrs old.
I think you've got your money's worth.
It's kind of a do it right or don't bother kind of thing.
I'm not implying you're not doing it right, only in that if you're going to do it, do it right.
