Default Saturn ion cv axle

Hey everyone, I’m replacing a cv axle on a 2006 Saturn ion. I got the axle out with ease however I noticed that the side that’s going into the transmission has a shaft on it and the new axle I have does not. Does anyone have any tricks to remove that shaft without damaging the rubber part of it?

Photo for reference

That piece with the rubber is a seal ride. A new seal and that ride are $11 at Rock Auto.
Look here for instructions.

just wondering if that out shaft sleeve goes into the transfer case? I’m just trying to resolve a issue where the car vibrates when your coasting

Since Ions are only front wheel drive, you do not have a transfer case. You have only a transaxle, your Ion is front wheel drive. It is extremely possible that a bad cv shaft is causing a vibration upon coasting. Does it vibrate under acceleration? It may be a motor mount that lets the engine contact the subframe under compression.

I think you have the intermediate shaft there.

Default Update*

So I was able to fix that vibrating problem with changing the cv axle. For those who may or may not have the same issue as me, how I took off the stub/intermediate shaft off the cv axle was with one hand I held the assembly by the stub shaft in the air, and the other I hit the cv axle with a hammer. Make sure to wear steel toed boots as the cv axle falls quickly lol. Hope this helps

Thank you for coming back and adding closure to this. Most people don't bother.
