I believe the U1000 was set when bag deployed, regardless all history codes cleared. Just back I disconnected both AB's they set appropriate codes which I cleared and now no codes but AB light is on solid.........
To answer your question, this is my situation. "If the new service SDM is the same part number as the SDM that you are replacing, BCM reprogramming is not necessary" My OEM SDM module was reset. But I am at a loss, I' gonna try some AB specialist or body shops around Pittsburgh. Eons ago I took a 98 SW2 to a local FORMER saturn dealer to have the PCM re flashed after installing a OEM cruise control on her. The mech was cool and wouldn't let me pay him. I called a local former dealer and the kid service writer said it "might still need reprogrammed but he was not sure and it was $132 with no guarantees!!!
And still no luck on a 2001 SIRS manual, though I did subscribe to a month sub of Alldata, not a lot of help.
That U1000 is gone but I looked at the circuit for that it's 1807, a purple wire that goes fro the DTC connector thru the BCM --PCM--I/P Cluster--SDM and I/P fuse block then back to the BCM. I may go out there tomorrow and try to ring that circuit out from connector to connector but NOT while all connected, I'd just be able to confirm continuity from plug to plug which I doubt will show a problem, appreciate your trying to help!
OK, know it's been a while but I have a fix on the airbags! After taking it to the dealer for a reprogram, it did not work. I found a un deployed SDM module that showed it was interchangeable based on my vin. Plugged it in reset security code and out went the airbag light.
