1997 SC2 tranny problem

Well, IF the trans starts acting wonky on her again and you want to change the valve body, it's not really that tough of a job. The main thing that's an inconvenience is if it has ABS or not. If so, you'll have to disconnect the ABS assembly from the master cylinder in order to have enough clearance to get the dang pan off the top of the transmission. Richpin on youtube has some great how to Saturn videos.

Thanks for the info Rube. Do these transmissions have problems with the valve bodies? I’ve watched several of Richpin’s videos. That what gave me the idea of swapping the motor. He’s very informative. Have a good thanksgiving and stay safe out there.

derf knows more about the TAAT4 transmissions than I do. I don't know if it's so much the actual valves inside, but the shift solenoids seem to crap out. Happy Thanksgiving to you and everyone else on the forum too. derf, what can you tell him about the shift solenoids?

Yes, all of the solenoids can become problematic. Stuck on. Stuck off, non responsive. There is a solenoid for the torque converter Tcc and a line pressure pressure solenoid in there. I believe something about their design leads them to wear out faster than they should. If you get a replacement or shall I say rebuilt valve body, make sure it is done with sonnax solenoids. Some Saturn guys rebuild them. Usually available on eBay. Used to go for about $200. No idea what the price is now.
