Okay so I have a 2003 VUE AWD 3.0 V6 that the timing belt broke and bent the valves on the front and rear cylinder heads. I went to the U-pull yard and there is a VUE with a 3.0, but some jack wagon left the hood open and took off the top cover to the intake manifold, so there is standing water in the runners. To me, that is already a lost cause, so I kept walking the yard and cam across a 2004 L300 V6 Station Wagon. I started looking at it and they appear to have the same cylinder heads and the motor in the L300 was actually built in 2003. But when I search online at the GM Parts.net, the cylinder heads are different part numbers. The cams are the same and so are the head gaskets, so i would assume that everything would bolt up, but I'm wondering what are the differences? Has anyone ever swapped parts from a L300? I don't want to go pull them in the hopes that they will get me back on the road and find out they don't work.

Just hang loose, man. Andy is our resident L series guru and he must not have seen your post yet. I'm sure he'll know if that's a doable swap.

 

The castings may be slightly different but you can check and see if the valves are the same. I think there are early and late 3.0 L series heads and I do not know what the differences are between them. Might be as simple as one bolt hole.
