Default Clutch fluid leaking from bell housing... Do I need to drop the transmission?

Hello! I've got a 2004 Saturn Vue 5 speed 2.2 front wheel drive. I lost clutch pressure the other day, and found the reservoir dry. I filled it up and bled it but kept losing fluid. I found today that it is leaking out of the Bell housing. From what I'm reading, the slave cylinder is inside the bell housing and it might require that I drop the transmission in order to replace it. Is that true for this vehicle? Thank you ahead of time!

Yes. It's the same setup as on an Ion. There is a video on YouTube where a guy did this job on a 2003 Vue. It's pretty comprehensive.

I was afraid of that. Thanks for the info though! I'll hunker down and watch that video to see if I really want to tackle it.

The video is just about removing the transmission -- I posted it to show you what's involved. Replacing the slave cylinder is a breeze, just three bolts if I remember right. And I would strongly recommend replacing the clutch while you're there already. Putting it all back together is not hard, but getting the input shaft aligned with the clutch while maneuvering the transmission can be tedious. Best of luck!

Thank you for guiding me to that video, it was extremely helpful. It took me a couple weeks but I managed to get the transmission off and all clutch components replaced. I've been back on the road for quite a while now.
