I was careful when I bought it to match it to my exact model and trim. I have already installed the Axles and they appear to work fine but I was wondering if that is going to cause some problems later. Do the CV axles have some length range that could allow it to use a bit shorter Axles?
LOL. My bad. I just noticed I had mistyped the original post. Correction made.

The major change is from 2007-2008 on VUEs. The 08-9 axles are only 1/4” different than the early ones. There is almost 2” of stroke in the inner end on some axles.

By 2" of stroke do do you mean "Play" to accomodate shorter ones?

Did you get the correct axle? The length from end to end is precise. There's no wiggle room of an inch or so. Should be within a 10th of an inch.

No, the stroke on the inner joint is to allow the car to steer and still stay connected. I think you may be mistaken with the length differences. If the axle was too short it would pull out of the transaxle when turning. GRC And I have done this for all our lives professionally.

Been doing some digging on this.

So I measured a spare Cardone I have and the compressed length seems to be about 22.5". Which is about what is listed on their website.

Interestingly, they also carry original remanufactured axles. The reman ones compressed length is just about the same...

Just to compare, I looked up a listing of the original "Discontinued" part. Dimensions list it as 28". But it does not specify if it's a "compressed" overall length. Although, it is interesting that a remanufactured original from Cardone is 22.38" in length. It leads me to believe that perhaps I was measuring the original axle I pulled from my car in an uncompressed state as I had layed them down flat on the floor, as opposed to standing up on one end when comparing the lenthgs.

What do you guys think?

I'm sorry, but I think you're going to have to do this project again. We just don't know. Heh.

You're done, and it works, and what you described as sounds logical.

To quote Three Dog Night, "what does it matter" at this point?

Well... I guess I'll find out the hard way when the Axle pops out.
