Strange noise/bearings?
Hello I have a 93 saturn sl 2 with alot of miles appox 300.000 I have noticed and od noise around 35mp or so its a humming sortave growl the exhaust is new the mounts are good .if im going straight and turn thr wheel to the right its. More prominent if I turn it to the left its quiet . I thought maybe the exhaust was separating but uts just not consistant with exhaust issues its quiet at turns just at higher speeds around bends but as i said only to the right its louder. Any thoughts?
Yes I think so too now my next question is it possible to the front on the car with the "on the car tool set" or just get the H tool press ? I dont wanna take off the spindle and have to get the alignment done again (just had it done) but from what I remember I may have to seperate everything anyway to get the clearance of the cv axle removel .is this correct ? Or can I take it off as long as I dont spin the tie rods?
I have never done an S car bearing. If you remove the complete strut with the knuckle and take it to a machine shop no alignment is needed. Disconnect the sway bar link, tie rod end and lower ball joint. Leave the caliper connected to the car and hang it with a short bungie. There should be videos of this on youtube.
Unfortunately the ball joint is integral to the control arm and once you free that up if you are even able to without rupturing the grease fitting, you've disconnected the control arm on one end so the alignment is gone. You have to pull the hub and take it in.

In my experience, installing those control arms is one of the biggest pains in the ***** on an s car IF you do not remove sway bar in an attempt to keep the suspension somewhat aligned.
I found after many many years that my front sway bar had a huge static stress stored based on the sway bar bushings having deteriorated and probably the last Saturn tech who touched it.
While you are at it, evaluate your lower control arm bushings. Likely they are dried out and trash. Can't get the ACDelco ones anymore. Doesn't matter because they were all manufactured at least 10 years ago and regardless of the brand the rubber is drying out on the shelf.
Get new sway bar bushings off Amazon. Make sure you mark where the brackets are on the bar. The new bushings will shift the bar towards the rear of the vehicle making reassembly a snap. Just leave stuff loose enough until you have both control arms on, then tighten up the sway bar bushing mounts then the control arms.
Apologies for the wandering discussion but anytime you need to mess with an s car suspension, you might as well look at the control arms because if you cannot get the ball joint out of the hub without breaking the grease seal, you're looking at a new control arm anyway.

Thank you for the help I always appreciate advice .I did actually reolace control arms or should I just say all suspension parts last year aside from the bearings I decided to order the h press and parts and just have the alignment done . And I have to say doing the suspension was quite easy Im guessing I got lucky also thanks to richpin vids lol and this forum .
