First off Thanks Derf the coolant temp sensorfixed the running rich problems I had with my son's 94 SL1 the funny part is it never threw a code.

After fixingthat problem I got my confidence up and decided to go after the odometer problem after reading a number of posts and knowing how many drinks had been spilled in the car I figured it had to be the PRCM even though the speedo and shoulder belts still worked.I just swaped it out with new one and the odo still doesn't move. I checked all the fuses and the connector on the back of the cluster all that looks good and connects positively. The only other problem the car has is that the chime goes off anytime you open the drivers door evenwhen the key is not in the ignition and the lights are off.

Since the problems didn't happen at the same time I guess it must be the key switch and the cluster, but before my son and I do anything else I wanted to see what yall think maybe I missed something? Thanks again for all the help.

The key chime was because of aworn key. The odometer died because the red gear inside the gauage cluster crumbled, I replaced it and it works now.

I have a similar problem in my 1992 SL1. You say the red gear inside the cluster crumbled. Did you replace the red gear, or did you replace the whole cluster? If you replaced just the red gear, where did you get the red gear?

Thks.

I got the red gear by going to ebay and buying a cluster then removed the gear by taking apart the cluster slowly and making note of how it was assembled then taking apart my cluster and installing the gear from the purchased cluster. Then I promised that I would never ever push the trip reset again while the car was moving and boom I was done. It works great, while I was at it I also replaced and or cleaned all the bulbs in the cluster. Now if I could only get it to run without stumbling at cruzing speed.

Ok. Thanks for the info. My 92 Saturn is showing its age mechanically with 240k miles on it. Fortunately, the engine is so simple I can do most of it myself.
