Ignorance is bliss
Ignorance is bliss.
My niece bought a 02 SL2 we had. I told her to keep an eye on the oil....
She showed up after she got an oil light in addition to a SES.
I scanned it - a purge canister fault. No biggie.
I checked the oil. Nothing on the stick.
I added 3 3/4 quarts (not gallon - tnx for note) to bring it to level.
DOH!!!
I took her out to the barn and showed her a couple of 1.9s with a rod out the side of the block - and told her it was amazing she didn' t own one......

Yes. I have single handedly made S series for sale a rarity in SW Mich.
I have a file of titles we have had. To date we have had 26 Saturns including SC, SL2, SC2 and SW2. 1992-2002. - except 2000. Have not bought one that year - yet...
I have bought as many rust free bodies as I could find. I have bought cars and engines only and have replaced several blown engines.
We currently have 6 driveable (one needs tranny work) a 96 SC2 with deer strike damage and two 96 SC2 parts cars. I also have a barn stashed full of used parts. ( and some new).
My car dolly I built has Saturn rear wheel bearings and wheels. My shop is adorned with an 8 foot high Saturn emblem.
There is no cure I'm afraid...

I HOPE you meant 3&3/4 Quarts and not gallons. That would be a hell of a lot of oil and I imagine damned near impossible. But I know what you mean. I had a girlfriend back in the 80's that I loaned my Dart to so she could commute to college. I showed her how to check the oil and even where I kept the extra quarts in the trunk because it had a rear main seal leaking. At the time I was running my own delivery service and working 80 hours a week, so didn't have time to fix it. After two weeks without a word, I checked on her and the car and when I cranked it up, I could hear a nice rod knock. I dumped her and the car. I loaded the crankcase with gear oil and went and traded it for a Ram 150. I still wish I'd kept her and the car.
I have a 95 SC2 and will likely be contacting you about parts.
Do you have any headlight door covers in decent condition as in no rust? Same question for the headlight bracket assembly that attaches to the rest of the car and holds the motor and door?
Guess I'm contacting you now.
I could also use some interior door panel stuff. Probably can't afford to ship but if you let me pick and choose it might work out.

It would be an easy job to make some latex molds and make some covers out of fiberglass...

It would be an easy job to make some latex molds and make some covers out of fiberglass... They tend to rust out when repeatedly closed wet... Water/salt gets trapped in the leading edge - which rusts out first...
I also seem to have a Saturn fetish. I have collected, disassembled and repaired probably 10 L series over the last 6-8 years. I drive a v6 wagon and I have two grandchildren driving 4 cylinder sedans. Lots of spare parts on the top shelf or parked in the driveway. I also have grandchildren in other 2.2 Ecotec powered cars also. I may have cleaned up the L series market near me also.
