Ignition key stuck in position intermediate between "lock" and "accessory"

Do NOT use the worn key for anything except a necklace.
Unless you wish to be replacing your hardly worn door locks and trunk lock. The other locks are not as worn internally as the ignition, so the key will be even more of a mismatch. The more you try to force it with the old key in the other locks, the faster you damage the other locks.
Keep it as an emergency.
You can try getting a key cut from the VIN number, but the locks have enough wear that a brand new vin cut key May actually not work. That sentence contains multiple grammatical errors. What I did for my 95 was to take an original worn Saturn replacement key and found a hardware store that still had a manual key grinder and thankfully an experienced key cutter. He traced both sides of the key and cut them manually so to speak like in the old days. Spot on for the locks in their current condition.
