Hi folks, first time poster here.

Quick background here. I was draining my GF's coolant the other day, and while I was under the car noticed this massive bolt missing from a piece of the front suspension. Apparently she had hit something with the front right of her car before I had met her and took it to a shop to get it fixed. I guess they didn't do too good of a job. In the pics you can see the piece hanging down. My question is what is the name of this part and bolt such that I can buy it online and connect it back up myself. I have an idea of how to go about it, and am pretty well seasoned in mechanics for a normal Joe (I've rebuilt a few chevys in my day). I just need to know what bolt/stud to buy.


The car is a Saturn SL2 01 1.9 liter. Shes been driving it like this for a while, but it needs to get fixed. It makes a serious noise as she goes over speed bumps. You can tell the sound comes from the right side. I figure I'll need to get an alignment after I get this piece bolted together. Any thoughts are appreciated.









For reference, the one pic directly above shows the left hand side where the part is properly bolted to the car.

Thats your engine cradle, you need to get that fixed ASAP.
most likely the bolt was broken in the accident and they didnt notice, or they didnt torque it down enough
if you have a jack, jack that piece up to the frame to keep the cradle from warping.
I honestly have no clue what size it is, your best bet is to go to your nearest authorized saturn service center (most likely a chevy dealer) and the parts department should beable to tell you what size it is (if not get you another one). Ill do some searching on alldata and my haynes manual but that is probably your best bet.
Worst case scenario, get another jack, pull one of the other bolts (best bet being the one diagonal to the missing one to keep the engine in place as best it can), and head to your local hardware store, they might beable to get you the bolt or point you in the right direction. Oh, get a grade 8 if you can also

also, another good thing would be to shoot over to introductions. The mods dont really like when members dont introduce themselves

I'd go to the local pick and pull salvage yard. Maybe grab a couple of extra ones while you're at it. Oh yeah, welcome to the forum.

Yeah, I figured it was a serious problem, Octavious. I appreciate the link to the bolt, that's probably what I'll be picking up. I lack the time to hit a pick and pull, so that link is a life saver. I almost thought about going to a dealer to get the part number for the bolt, but didn't want to have to deal with them trying to sell me on bringing the car in.

As for the introductions, I'll be sure to hop on over and do that.
