binding feel when turning left sharply and accelerating

I can't figure this thing out. Sometimes when accelerating on left turns it sounds like the tire is rubbing on something plastic (which I can find no evidence of). It makes a "shuk, shuk shuk" sound. Other times when accelerating on a left turn it makes a clicking noise like the CV joint is bad. Other times when accelerating on a left turn it doesn't make any noise...???

I have a new driver's side axle sitting in my garage in the shipping box ready to go in, but after seeing how rusty the bolts are under there, I don't want to have to tackle that if I don't absolutely need to.

By the way, a guy can use an ABS axle on a non-ABS car, right?
