Just a thought, intake leak could push it out the exhaust. What else changed? Did the car ever run properly for you before the latest issue?

Yes, it did run fine before it sat for those 2 years. It got extremely hot because of the lower radiator hose blew while going down the interstate. I had it towed home and there it sat. I misread your previous remark about the coolant flow "into" the inlet. I thought the leak you described to be external. I suppose it might be a head gasket/warped head(s)??? That's about all it could be, right? What a pain in the rear that is going to be.

If you love the car and want to fix it, I would completely tear down the engine and have it checked for overheat damage. This is a complicated European designed engine. There is an engine oil cooler deep under the intake manifold. I am a retired career mechanic, and it took me several hours to replace the thermostat. Both heads are probably warped and I would much rather have one on the stand for that repair.
