Default Fuel pump

Hi there, I have a 2002 Saturn LW300 wagon. Great little car! However I need to replace the fuel pump. I know the correct way is to drop the tank, but I saw a couple of videos of people cutting an access hole under the back seat to avoid having to drop the tank. Currently the car is in my apartment complex, so I either have to do it here or pay for a tow truck to haul it to a mechanic. Any thoughts and advice would be appreciated!

Wait for Andy to chime in, but I would ask around for a few quotes for the total cost of replacement before making that call.

The important question is where are you and how rusty is your car? I would never cut through the floor to replace the pump unless your car is on its’ last legs due to rust. If it is rusty it would be a battle getting it apart and worse trying to get it back together. Also cutting through the floor creates a fire path into the interior in case of a severe crash.

I know, she's not rusty and hopefully not on her last leg. But just wanted to get it done without dropping the tank just because of the fact it will have to be done in the parking lot. Thanks for everyone's help!
