Cv shaft passenger side

Default Cv shaft passenger side

Install a new cv shaft and I have about 1/2 inch between cv shaft and transmission. I’ve hammered and hammered. Is this normal
Saturn l100 2002 2.2

I doubt it, which side and what did it look like before disassembly? There is usually just enough room to slip a pry bar between the axle and the transmission. The lock ring can get caught going into the side gear. Pull it back out and inspect the ring for damage. If it is destroyed try the ring from the old axle. The axle needs to lock into the side gear or the transmission will leak oil and die.
