Remove the small link, it slides out easily.

The part of the adjuster that turns the wheel lifts out now.

Now remove the main spring, it needs to be spun around in the trailing shoe to come out easily.

Pull the brake shoes away from the wheel cylinder and remove the adjuster.

Remove the spring and cap holding the trailing shoe to the backing plate. Hold the pin on the back of the backing plate with your fingertip. Twist the pin with needle nose pliers. By moving the shoes apart releases some of the tension on the hold down springs. I chipped a front tooth 30 years ago when one got away from me.

Remove the lower cross spring.

Slide the trailing shoe away and release the parking brake cable from the parking brake arm.

Remove the leading shoe hold down spring.

Nice step by step instructions and photos, Andy. I sure hope derf makes a sticky out of this one. It well deserves it.

I hope that helps you with your brakes. I have both sides if you need hard parts, I sold my one drum brake Saturn. Springs and adjuster parts seem like they are in good condition.

I'm waiting until the current issue is addressed before making it a sticky so as not to hide it from those actively contributing to it
