Gas tank removal on 2007 Ion. Do I first need to remove the exhaust system?
I have a 2007 Saturn Ion 3. I need to remove the gas tank. According to my repair manual, I first need to remove the exhaust system pipe that is in the way.
So I looked at it. The exhaust system consists of a muffler, long pipe, and resonator. There is a flange with two bolts on the resonator. See diagram.
Do I need to remove the exhaust system (between flange and tail pipe) in order to remove the gas tank?
If so… if I cut the two rusty bolts from the flange, am I able to “snake it out” between the gas tank and frame member? If not, I guess I need to cut it out.
Thanks.
I don’t own a welder. If I cut out the exhaust system, is there a “bolt on” exhaust system I can purchase?

I did a fuel pump on my 03 in the Wal-Mart parking lot. I dont remember the exhaust being in the way.
and no way you're going to snake the exhaust out over the rear beam.
Im trying to remember how I did it.
Jacked the car up pretty high. Took the pass side wheel off. Disconnected all hoses and connectors. And I think I unbolted the back 2 bolts so I could get to the hoses on top of the tank. Then did the pass side bracket, with a jack trying to hold it up. It was a pain. And Wal-Mart tried telling me I couldnt work on my car and they were going to have it towed 😂
