Gas gauge not working

2007 Ion with 2.2 liter.

The gas shows empty all the time. Is there a common problem that afflicts the gas gauge in these cars?

Animal chewed through wire.
float is stuck down.
Sender electronics bad
Bad connection to/at cluster.
BCM issue
