I need a new ignition lock cylinder on my 1999 SC2, but none of the junkyards seem to have one that you can just pull the cylinder out.
And if I try to buy a new one for 1999, they cost $61-$100 and come with no keys, and about 20 different tumblers that I'm supposed to know how to assemble.
The older ones cost about $15 and come with keys, already assembled.
However, they are shorter.
Does anyone know if you can trade the housing to put the long cylinder cover on the new insides so it will fit?

It's not that difficult to replace the tumblers in one. They have numbers or letters on them and all you have to do is pull them out one at a time and put a new one in it's place with the same number or letter on it. They have small springs in there too, so be careful if you do this.

The new lock cylinder comes with housing, so do the new tumblers go in the new or old housing?

Go to the dealer and have them build you one fresh and new. Call around for the best price. You'll need to bring your VIN so they can look up your key code. Get TWO new keys at the same time. DONE-WORKS-OVER
