Default Ignition switch replace, won't stay running

My son has a 2001 Saturn SC2, the ignition cylender completely stopped working could not put the key in ignition cylinder. Got replacement ignition switch from a junk yard off a 93 Saturn unsure of what series was told S. Put new ignition switch on and now car will not stay running. Have been looking for a way to fix. Already tried to trick system turned key to on position just before start left for 10 min shut off and did 3 times it still shuts off like kill switch for fuel. Please help.

A 2001 S car uses a Passlock security system. These vehicles contain a special.component in the ignition switch itself that the body control.module interacts with. Without that component present and the system synched, the PCM will not allow the fuel injectors to operate because the bcm never returns an OK from the module in the ignition switch...... because it is just not.there.

Pretty sure the s coupes got a bcm and Passlock in 99. Personally, I'd by a new inexpensive replacement rather than rolling the dice on a 15yr old health unknown ignition switch and cylinder. Quite a few s cars of that era and Ions and L series vehicles became undrivable compliments of Passlock.

Go to rockauto.com and find the correct part. Avoid any chain store with the exception of NAPA.

Perform the Passlock relearn and let us know
