few problems
Hey guys (and girls?) I have a few questions about my 99 sc1
First off- The car is REALLY loud. I replaced the tensioner a few monts ago and that seemed to make it a little quieter. But now its loud again. What should i be looking at?
Second is when i apply the breaks ( most of the time) i get a squeeling noise, Sounds like something is rubbing. I just got new tires and the mechanic never told me anything was wrong with anything, But all he did was change the tires.
Thanks in advance
LOUDunder the hood or elsewhere? If the tensioner didn't solve the noise problem try removing the belt altogether to hand turn each pully to feel for sloppy, tight, excessive sideplay from any bearing. You'll feel the bad one quickly enough. A water pump bearing will leak coolant if you're able to rock the puley from side to side. The idler pulley should spin without any sideplay. The power steering pump is surrounded in oil and will resist turning as it is a pump but there shouldn't be any sideplay to cause squealing. The idler pulley may be worn and again there shouldn't be any sideplay, roughness or noisiness when spinning. The alternator should spin freely.
Squealing brakes my be a sign of worn brakes and must be inspected to verify whether the discs or shoes are worn down to the minimum where a metal device warns of wear by rubbing against the rotors or rivets exposed are rubbing against the drums. Either condition can lead to poor braking unless the brakes are inspected.
