2002 accident issues
Hi!
Question….. I was in an accident with my SC2 in which my front drivers tire came off throwing me into the middle lane of an interstate…. I tapped a car…. Both of us did a tight 360 in the middle lane… then slide across the outer left lane and then slide on into the left ditch…
issue right now is the pipe from the catalytic converter where it meets the pipe from the muffler … (I’m winging it here so I hope I explain it well enough to give you an accurate pic) the round metal piece where the two pipes bolt together is down due to a bolt coming loose from that connection……..
now someone that does a lot of mechanic works said… that for that pipe to be in that position… it’s possible for a motor mount to of broken for that to happen… might now be just as simple as get underneath and replace a bolt…..
also mentioned that the saturn chassis isn’t really made to take that kind of hit and not sustain damage… my passenger door has a big hole in the lower front and then also the fender there as well….. I did have to replace a part that had to deal with each wheel shortly after the accident… my daughter took care of it… I’m trying to recall the part name…. I also had to do the breaks….
any words of advise are welcome…… I love my saturn…. But I have to admit…when last driving it… it didn’t seem the same… and I have new tires on as well….. it has 147,000 so it has a lot of life…. This is my second blue 2002 saturn SC2… its identical to my first one!! Lol… best driving car for twin cities driving and over all I love it….I’m older and driven lots of cars…and this is still top of my list…..

Sounds like you must be pretty attached to this vehicle to be repairing and replacing the body panels, calipers, and other stuff.
Without pictures from multiple angles it's difficult for us to assess the nature of the damage to the vehicle and therefore the potential causes of said damage.
I'm thinking you mean catalytic converter to resonator connection with the triangular flange that bolts together. Anyway, the entire exhaust system is suspended from the bottom of the vehicle by different types of hangers. Some are basically metal bars that fit into rubber mounts that are attached to the underside of the car. It's possible that one or more of those have torn in which case the exhaust system will be misaligned and could in fact have had a portion of it pushed backwards to create that dip. Could have broken a bolt. If everything is still intact with the hangers, then the engine could have been pushed towards the back of the vehicle, but it would have to break two or three different mounts to move that far backward. Plus you would see that the engine is visibly closer to the firewall and it was before and it would likely be sunken down lower as well. Again, pictures are worth a thousand words. Not sure what your question actually is unless it was for us to help you assess the damage. Pictures pictures please
