2001 Saturn SC1 - Should I Buy?
#11
I've been driving the car around 3 days now, I like it. I pulled the brakes apart and the guide pins were bone dry of lube and the rattle clips disintegrated lol. So there is some stuff to fix on it still, my buddy gave me a full set of new pads and rotors as well as a spare brand new master cylinder in case I wanted to replace that (I don't think I do, hate bleeding brakes). The Air Injection Pump is dead, no sound from it and no air flow out of end of hose going to flow valve. That is a pricey part, looks like about $160. There does sound to be an exhaust leak somewhere near the engine compartment, it's loud at idle you can tell. Aside from some underbody rust that's all I can find wrong with it, I'll fix up the small stuff, maybe throw some new struts and springs on since they are dirt cheap. I think it will turn out to be a nice little junker 200 miles on it since I started driving and its gotten smoother to drive if anything!

It doesnt use oil at all, just the codes from check engine and it does seem to lose some power on acceleration. I guess I could check some junkyards around, it's not really that big of deal to buy a new part it's just shocking that the damn thing costs so much. It's only money, the cheap side of me winces but I can afford it if I can't find a junkyard part

I also have an electric air injection pump on my L200. I had noisy exhaust under the hood and the check valve where the air injection is connected to the exhaust manifold was bad. $20 part and the car is quiet again. Only some of the L200 cars have the electric air pump so if you live near the smog **** states of New York or California you might find one used.
