I was hit by the eye of Andrew. We went with out city utilities for 6 months. I didn't get dollar one from FEMA and I've never made so much money in my life after the storm. For those willing to work, it was $250 a day for a labor, up to $1000 a day for a skilled trade. I don't have an ounce of pity for any one who has been lounging around a motel room for a half a year and is going to be kicked out. If New Orleans was my home, I would be living in a tent, eating MRIs and watching my bank account explode.

Youre exactly right Stevestar. I was talking to someone at work about that... I would probably take advantage of the free money and hotel rooms, but you bet that I would walk away with a good chuck of change in my pocket when they told us to leave. There are just some people that can not be kept down regardless of circumstances, and others who lay down like whipped puppies and wait for the government to provide for them. After May 3rd, the government gave usa 300 dollar loan that could have turned into a grant. I used the money to put new glass in my truck so I could drive it without goggles on and they garnished our wages for a few months to get the money back.

I know some of the hotels were donating free rooms and giving 200 dollars (a day it think, but I cant remember what I read) to the refugees. Of course, they get a huge tax break for this and it all gets written off, so in the end our Country loses money... p
