Hi from West Central Missouri

I recently took my wifes 01 SC1 into the local Saturn dealer for diagnostics and estimate for rough idle and and poor gas mileage.

With a straight face they informed me that the intake gasket was blown and would cost $550 to fix, EGR replace $300, 02 sensor wire chafed and shorted $100, throttle body carbon clean up $165, motor mount bad $198. Total over $1300 with tax

Purchased Intakegasket for $20 (after doing leaky intake gaskettest from forum), EGR valve on ebay for $50, motor mount on ebay for $30, can of throttle bottle cleaner $4

Studied forum posts and spent Saturday doing all the work ( I am not a mechanic and never have been so I took 6 hours to complete, itisprobably a 3-4 hour job for real mechanic) and I saved $1200 !!!!!!!! Thanks to all who contribute to Saturnforum!

Congratulations on your repairs. I have to be honest ...since I am getting older I choose to let the ''shop mechanics'' do the work most of the time, but when it gets as blatant as the repairs you mentioned, my tools come out of storage and I open a fresh can of Go-Jo
