Hey ya'll..

I have a few questions.. ok

So I have just boughta 97' SL2.The problem isthatit isntrunning right now(current condition I bought it). I took it to the mechanic, and he said something about a 'Cylinder Wall Head' being cracked.

Now I know what the Cylinder Wall is.. but not the 'cylinder wall head'. I'm assuming he is talking about the cylinder wall where it meets the head?

Anyways.. he qouted me $1200 parts and labor, and I just wanted to know if I could purchase a new block from a diff model (like an sl1), and if it would just bolt right on (after resurfacing the head).

I'm very new to the Saturn models, and its internals. I also own a Honda Civic (I know WAY more about Hondas).

ANY INFO IS HELPFUL!! THANKS!

Sounds like the "mechanic" is feeding you a line. Cracked cylinder wall? Not likely. Cracked block? Only if it was run completly out of oil. Then there would be a gaping hole on one side of the block. Cracked head? Unlikely with a DOHC, since you say its a SL2. Now if it were a SL or SL1 with a SOHC, then I could believe that.

Well the previous owner said that the water pump was broken(or leaking I forgot) and that could have cause the cylinder to overheat and crack (if they didnt know it was broken) am I right?

From what the previous owner said (and the mechanic) that it was leaking oil. Could it be a mixture of leaking oil, and not having a water pump to crack the wall of the cylinder?

But lets say it is the block.

Is there any other model(s) that I can get a block from and will it be direct fit?

Worste case scenario that is lol

It would be easier to drop in an entire assembled engine though. Prices vary depending on your location.
