New owner: Fast becoming a fan

another smart move with the s series is they usually tend to burn oil so definitely keep an eye on it (surprised it wasn't brought up already). since your a diyer you'll find a vast majority of the stuff on the car can be done in the driveway. agreed though some stuff can be a bit hit/miss as far as parts store stuff.

I've never really had a parts fit problem, although since Saturn is no longer a company and the Dealer no longer sells/advertises Saturns the Volkswagen parts they sell now, because they fit the Volkswagen cars they sell, don't fit my Saturn worth a darn. Most everything I purchase now comes from wrecking yards or Car Quest. I only have owned S series, never had a newer one. Frankly never liked them. The oil consumption problem I have seen, but at the present am not experiencing. But because I live in the heat and a cold day of below 50 is quite rare, but over 100 is not. The high yesterday was 98 and it is a cool run. I run 20-W-50 and have since I have owned the car with no problems at all. I do not agree that 10W40 is too heavy for an older car with over 100,000 miles on it. That is well with in recommended alternatives for age, mileage and temperature ranges. Dyno vs. synthetic is owners prerogatives also. I personally do not see a particular advantage to it at the present time although I changed my New Chrysler T&C to Mobil 1, 20-W-50 the first oil change after purchase and follow the Change Filter, add 1 quart oil maintenance schedule for 3 oil changes intervals and it is cost effective for that car.
The S series are indeed a marvelous car, well designed and easy to maintain.
