Hello Saturn enthusiasts...
I'm new to the saturn forums and I'm looking forward to browsing for some tips/tricks for my 2002 Saturn SC2. She's in rough shape at the moment and I was hoping everyone could put in their thoughts to help a guy out. She's of course got the reverse slam issue happening and rough shifting going on. I'm working on the valve body replacement as I write this note. On the ride home yesterday, she also started developing a loud, consistent, steady ticking sound whenever I would depress the gas pedal. About 3/4 of the way home it lost accelleration suddenly, smoke poured out the hood and the vents inside the car and I coasted to a stop on an exit ramp about 5 minutes from my place. My dad and I towed the car back home and I have time/resources adequate to work on it. Aside from the valve body are there any other recommendations based on the information I provided? If the valve body had a complete FAILURE by some means, would that account for what happened with my car last night (e.g. no accelleration, smoke out the hood, can't turn the vehicle over) ?

I already introduced myself - see the first note in this thread. If there is additional information other than my make/model/year of car, the fact that I love the Saturn line, and what my current driving style is like, you'll need to make that more specific in the header area.
