exhaust tuning
#1
</>hi im actually really new to saturn tuning and all but i do have a question on a full exhaust system (headers to tip) does anyone know the diameter/length of pipes to use w/out sacrificing torque/hp/and throttle respbut aswell improving in those areas? i've heard different views....or better yet if no one knows then could you just tell me your setup and roughly how much hp/tq youre exhaust system has improved? thanx in advance
O btw ive got a 98 sc2 man. transEdited by: krismanme

Hey im in the same boat!
I have a 92, and no company makes a cat back for my vehicle. I am in the
process of making a custom unit with mandrel bent tubing. From what i
have researched, anything larger than 2 1/4" will hurt performance because
of lack of back pressure and sound frequencies reverberation. Try to go with
something larger than stock, but no larger that 2 1/4". Remember to keep in
mind local and state laws for noise, don''t want to get pulled over every time
you try to take a trip around the corner! More sound doesn''t always mean
more power, and in most cases with a 4 cylinder engine, it just sounds...
bad.

I''m in the same boat guys. My setup will be on my 98 sc2, a 92 header, hi flow cat and either 2" or 2.25" piping. No back muffler and a cherrybomb glasspack on middle (in place of oem resonator). But i''m still between pipe size, since my only mods will be CAI, bored TB, wires, sparks. I want to gain on top end but i dont want to lag alot on bottom-mid range.

hey i plan on doing my exhaust in about a week. I need to order all the
parts and get to work on it. I will take some pictures along the way to see
how it all turns out. I will let you know. I plan on using a flowmaster 60
series muffler, 2 1/4 pipe, and a magnaflow high flow cat (mine needs to be
replaced anyway, so i am doing the whole system at once) Be careful when
when using just the glass pack without the muffler, i live in MD and we are
required to have a muffler on the back of the car. I have decided to leave the
resonator in the pipe out, its just extra work and money.

So i am buddy, i will do mine this week and also post pics and after vids. I know what you mean about the back muffler, i just found i loved the sound of the glasspack on middle, sound very mellow. But lets wait for your 60 series, i might change my way
