The Torch is Passed: Derf s 97SC2 now a spare for Rube
Today was a happy yet sad day for me.
I drove down to Alabama yesterday to deliver the black car, my 97 SC2 with 266K on it, to Rube.
Total cost: Lunch.
Rube has been my friend through thick and thin and I have tried to be the same. I met him on this forum well over a decade ago and have benefited from his advice many more times than once.
As discussed, the car has a subframe issue which Rube may pursue fixing.
What I did not know until significantly into my trip was the seriousness of the clutch issue which Andy has diagnosed.
Had I known, I never would have planned to do a double transplant in my two SC2's and would have completely screwed myself.
And of course, I would have reconsidered even offering it to Rube as an extra ride.
I make this commitment in the presence of all of you: If / when Rube wants to address the clutch replacement, I will pay all parts and labor costs or come down here and be personally involved in the work.
I did not and do not hide things. I had already mentioned the clutch goofiness to Rube before reading Andy's diagnosis.
This is the first car for which I have ever transferred a title. Ever. It's a good thing I didn't try to sell it as is.
It will live on in one form or another. The engine is more or less purring and if nothing else can be sold as a donor.
Now on to the 95

Hey Guys, I want you all to know what a terrific dude derf is. Very intelligent and humble man. I do not and will not hold him "responsible" for any work needed on this car. I'll probably hold off on a clutch replacement until the fall, along with the sub frame. It may not need it, IDK. We're in the South and don't get very much snow or ice in the winters anymore. So, I love the car and my buddy derf. Right now I have two bathrooms to remodel and have to get that done first before I can work on the car. I'll probably wait a few months to even insure and title it in my name. No point paying insurance on a car you're not going to be driving for a while, right? So, thank you, my brother, derf. Any of the rest of you guys ever get the chance to meet him, take it. You won't regret it. He's welcome in my home anytime.
