A/C works sometime

Question A/C works sometime

2008 saturn aura 2.4L i have a static pressure of 100 psi on both low and high gauge when a/c clutch engage and running. no cool when come in it cool well. can anyone explain? i am still trying to figure it out.

The L series has a variable displacement compressor, mine stuck at zero displacement and I had to replace it. Check to see if your car uses a similar compressor, that could be all that is wrong.

What is the benefit of this type of compressor? What controls the displacement?

The system is controlled by an expansion valve at the firewall. Several manufacturers have used this system over the years. It allows for constant compressor operation with variable flow. My mother’s Cadillac had a similar system back in the sixties smooth operation with no clutch cycling.
