95 SC2 Belt Tensioner Replacement
#1
All,
Anyone ever changed a belt tensioner on a 95 SC2 (or similar)? Looks kinda tucked in there based on the serpentine belt routing diagram....prefer to do it myself if it's "reasonably straightforward". I do not have access to a lift :|
95 SC2 184K, A/C, PS, etc......so many pulleys....so little room....
Looking for detailed guidance.
Thanks

I have a 1997 Saturn SL and around 38000 miles the tensioner pulley went bad. Just outside the warranty period. To replace the tension pulley you will need a floor jack for the right front of the car because you will be pulling the right side wheel off and plastic splash shield in order to get to the two bolts that hold the tensioner pulley in place and route the new serpentine belt. You will also need a floor jack with a cushion, like a block of wood under the oil pan to raise the right side of the motor up a few inches after you have removed the top motor mount. Without raising the motor it is almost impossible to get to one of the two bolts that hold the tensioner pulley on the front of the motor. Usind abox wrench on the tensioner pulley's center bolt gives you the ability to remove the tension on the serpentine belt. It is a relatively easy job and shoulden't take very long. A new tensioner pulley cost me $60-$70 years ago.

Paulorlo's description is prettyright onfor the 95. You will have to loosen up the top motor mount to jack the engine up a couple of inches to get to the bolts. And if you have access to a bearing press, you can just replace the bearing in the pulley. They're $5.00 @ NAPA. Part#6203-2RSJ
