93 SW2 electrical problem
#1
Symptoms: Automatic shoulder belts, all idiot lights. all gauges, and apparently charging system stopped working; dome light and door open chime do not shut off when door is closed; 10 amp #14 fuse under dash blows when replaced. Yes, this all happened at once! Any ideas? Thanks....

Jimbo,
Can you confirm that #14 10A fuse is "IGN 1" ?(should be labeled on the inside of the cover for the Instrument Panel Junction Block under the dash)
Also, does chime function with the 10 A fuse blown? From your post, I'm assuming the answer is yes. That having been assumed:
It appears that the
1) Chime module
2) Passive Restraint Control Module (auto shoulder belts)
3) Instrument panel cluster, and
4) Performance/Normal switch (if Auto trans)
are all fed through IGN 1 fuse (10A) on a '93.
Passive restraint control module and chime circuits are interdependent in a less than straightforward manner....Chime circuit, door switches, and airbag system are also
interdependent.....
Seems to me that the Passive Restraint control module is bad, as you
seem to indicate that the chime actually still functions (although
incorrectly). I
suppose it is possible that the chime circuit is getting powered
through an unintended alternate current path -- thus causing it to go
goofy--but that is a side issue....
Confirmation of Bad Passive Restraint Control Module</span>
You should be able to confirm the above by removing the Passive restraint module from the circuit, putting in a new IGN 1 10A fuse, and verifying that the IGN 1 fuse no longer blows and the instrument panel comes back, etc...
Hope this helps.
Please post resolution.
