Diag tree for Code 26:
Key on, Engine off:
1) Note behavior of hot coolant and SES light.
Proper behavior: SES comes on, stays on. Hot coolant light shuts off
If improper behavior: check circuits for voltage, short to ground, open wire, or
both.
2) Ground ALDL pin A to pin B:
Proper Behavior: Radiator fan runs.
Improper behavior: Check circuit for voltage, short, or open. Coolant fan relay
resistance 80 +/- 10 Ohms.
3) REMOVE ALDL GROUND. START ENGINE.
4) Turn on A/C. Does A/C clutch operate?
Proper behavior: A/C clutch engages.
Improper behavior: A/C clutch does not engage. Check circuit for voltage,
short, or open. A/C relay resistance 80 +/- 10 Ohms.
5) Does Speedometer operate?
Proper behavior: Speedo operates.
Improper behavior: Check circuit for voltage, short to ground, or open wire.
6) Disconnect PCM and ground circuit 456.
Proper behavior: upshift (MT) or SHift to D2 light illuminates.
Improper behavior: Check circuit for voltage, short to ground, open wire, or
both.
7) Measure voltage at circuits 428 and 435 at PCM harness connector.
Proper behavior: Voltage present on both circuits.
Improper behavior: Check circuit for voltage, short to ground, open wire, or
solenoids.
8) KEY OFF.
9) Measure resistance of EGR solenoid and Canister Purge Solenoid.
Proper behavior: Resistance Value of each = 32 +/- 10 ohms.
Improper behavior: Shorted solenoid -- replace.
10) Reconnect PCM. Clear codes. Start Engine.
11) Does code reset?
Code resets----terminal tightness or PCM.
Code does not reset -- intermittent problem......

derf after i have done work on motor it will give me a 12 code after i take it for a test ride and let it idel in park the check light comes on and the code is 26
the thing that it might be is the ac clutch ,the system is not charged

has it stopped turning on and off when driving? does it now only occur when sitting at idle? This is a critical question, since the SES behavior you originally described was quite different
No it dosn't come on an off any more like it did I think we are making progess, it came on that one time when i test drove it tue night the light has not come on since then I, have put on at lest 200 miles , I still a have code 26, I might not have said that is a differnt motor than the one that came in the car from the factory, could that be the root of the truble?
What year motor is in there now?
Does your cooling fan turn on when the temp increases to the 3/4 mark on the gauge while it idles (with the A/C off)? Presumably you are not turning on the A/C if the system is not charged......
