View Full Version : 2003 L200 slamming into gear!

My 2003 L200 has 99,000 miles on it. The car runs smoothly for about 10 minutes or so - until the engine is no longer cold - then something weird happens.

BOTH radiator fans begin to run. I don't think I've ever heard them both run. And, as long as they are both on, the car shifts extremely hard. Like with a big boom. It slams into drive and reverse, and slams into every other gear when shifting.

The check engine light has been going on and off periodically for months now, so I had that checked out. The only signal was for a bad idle temp sensor. I replaced that. When hooked up to diagnostic equipment, the computer still reads -40degrees (f) which indicates that there is still no signal from the idle temp sensor.

I'm afraid to drive the car this way, because I don't want the transmission to get damaged.

Can anyone explain to me what's going on?

I have asked4 mechanics and none of them really had any definiteidea what the problem might be.

please help!!

thanks

Did you take it to the TECH's that know the car best?

Wasthe wrong temperature sensor replaced? An idle temperature sensor doesn't exist unless you mean the intakeair temperature sensor (IATS). The other and more important sensor is the engine coolant temperature sensor (ECTS). The diagnostic about reading -40d F. is for the failed coolant sensor. This sensor indirectly affects the two fans while the air temperature sensor is used as one of the inputs for determining the air/fuel mixture by the ECM/PCM.

I have the perfect solution... Only run it on cold nights... smileys/smiley5.gif

HAVE YOU FIX THIS SATURN TRANNY PROBLEM? GEO

IF YOU HAVE NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION SLAMMING AS YOU SAY, I BELIEVE I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I DRIVE A 2000 LS SATURN 2.2. MY SYMTOMS WERE HARD SLAM SHIFTING AT FIRST AND THEN SECOND GEAR. I THOUGHT MY TRANNY WAS GOING TO FALL OFF. I HOOK UP A SCANNER THAT MY NEIGHBOR GAVE ME TO USE AND CAME UP WITH A TROUBLE CODE PO122. A FAULTY THROTTLE POSITIONING SENSOR. THAT IS WHAT IT WAS. PIECE OF CAKE. WENT OVER TO AUTO ZONE ASK FOR A (TPS) THROTTLE POSITIONING SENSOR FOR ABOUT 30.00 BUCKS AND THAT TOOK CARE OF THE PROBLEM. RUNS LIKE A CHAMP AGAIN. MY SATURN HAS 168,000 MILES. OH EASY TO REPLACE, ALL YOU NEED IS A PHILLIPS SCREW DRIVER. GOOD LUCK GEORGE FRESNO,CA
