Default 2001 saturn L100 rear wheel hub and bearing

hi sages of saturn- greetings recently joined and was helped on this new forum regarding repair of rear wheel drum brakes/ brake self adjuster. . newcomer who recenty joined forum . was member of old saturnfans forum now defunct. a little background. bought new 2001 L100 saturn sedan back in fall of 2000. took 6 weeks to get it b/c i wanted 3 floor pedals .car built in delaware plant. dealer told me the 4cyl was not an interference engine( he lied) . engine had a timing chain much better than a rubber belt. car has almost 220 k miles now in 2026. replaced chain which was rattling a few years ago. bet you know what happens when a rubber timing belt breaks in an interference engine. one of the few best cars i have had in 60 years behind the wheel . still gets the same mpg that was on the window sticker( 25 in town and 33 on hwy). gets about 1200 miles per quart of oil(uses 5-30 synthetic) . no rust in floors or body from salt or weather. spent its first 13 years in nj . since 03 in fla. have done much of the repair work and maintenance myself, now for the question of the day- has anyone here replaced the rear wheel hubs and wheel bearings. no noise or looseness in either but are original. rockauto running closeout low prices on them. anybody here replaced this L series item? uncle moe tells me if it aint broke dont fix it. what is your advice? looks like they come out easy with 4 bolts. bet shyster mechanic would clip me $400+ for the job.. here these jokers are charging $125 for an oil change and fiter. dont want to go to the er with a severe case of sticker shock. thanks ton bob f (rfisher callpaladin@aol.com)

I have replaced one rear on one car that had slapped a curb hard enough to bend the control arm and a wheel. I have yet to replace one on any of the normally driven ones. I replaced both front on my latest wagon, they were bad when I purchased it. I have new spares for both ends on the shelf, probably will never need them.

Basically what Andy is telling you is the same thing your uncle did.
