Default Found in waterpump

As stated in the title, I found these two little objects inside the water pump housing when I removed it in order to put timing chain cover back on. Object on the left is brown plastic with a number 8 on it and object on the right seems like a little black, all rubber stopper of some sort. On a scale of 1 to 10 how worried should I be about where they came from and how they got there? Any ideas what they even are cuz it's got me stumped (granted, I'm no professional mechanic so my limited knowledge of their possible origin is proving to be less than helpful) On the home stretch of this rebuild and really don't want to have to take it all back apart to replace if it's something critical, right after I finish everything up...
Left; solid brown, plastic with an '8' imprinted in the middle. Right; black, all rubber plug or stopper of some sort... 8 mm wrench for scale purposes only, NFS

I wish I could tell you, but I've never had a 1.9 open. I think derf wants to know if it's a SOHC or DOHC engine.
