your best bet if you want to do something cheap is to head til your local junkyard and find a set with low miles - hopefully in good condition.

In my opinion, if your going to go through the work of replacing all the struts, you might as well do it right and buy new ones. I have the KYB's on my car and they are pretty good, but when I have friends in the car the rear end rides quite hard and slams on bumps, even when the struts were new.

The cheapest ive seen struts new is $75 a piece (for a complete strut with springs) on rock auto - like $40 a piece for the strut only.

Monroe also has "Quick Struts" which include the springs, so it's a really fast swap, and no dangerous spring removal off the old ones.

 

spring removal is not incredibly dangerous when done properly with the proper tools, proper technique, and proper self-protection steps.
