so first actual post, this is my 2006 Ion. 2.2L 5 speed manual. newer iridium spark plugs and a recently replaced coil pack. we put a new OEM resonator assembly on, but left the rear muffler off and did a piece of pipe instead. here's a lazily made video showing it off. my friends think it's good but I'll take your opinions.
I agree with derf and Drop Dead. It needs a muffler of some type. Sounds too much like a Honda with a fart can muffler stuck on it for now. Borla is expensive, but they make some top notch exhaust parts.
I appreciate the feedback! I will say there is more to the story here. the exhaust actually rotted off on me, started with the muffler with the rest of the resonator assembly following. Now as I said in another post, eventual plan for this car is engine donor into a southern body, so I don't want to put a lot of money into anything not the engine due to this. so I cheaped out and just replaced the resonator assembly, replacing the muffler with a piece of pipe as seen here (along with the rust)
needless to say in the new body though, it will be completely different than it is here
Since you're going to be scrapping the body and using the drive train, just leave it the way it is. No sense in putting money into something headed to the recycle center.
