I got a SL2 2001 and my muffler is falling off.

The metal strap that holds it up looks like it rusted away, and now the muffler is just dangling. and rattles a bit while driving.

I am new to doing things with the car, but I am handy and think I can handle this small problem. I tried looking for that metal belt, but can't seam to find it online.

So my questions are:

1) how hard is it to fix by yourself?

2) what is the part number that I need?

thank you in advance

I used a universal metal strap that I picked up at AutoZone for a couple dollars. It worked perfectly for me and haven't had an issue yet.

In what part of the muffler is falling off? Is it just the saturn muffler thats falling off or does it include the pipe? Is the part falling off near the saturn intermediate pipe?

I assume it's back by the muffler... Especially since Beck said "I am new to doing things with the car"... That and it's a problem I've had with a few of my older cars (don't know why it's happening on an 01 though)

Yeah, it's really not that hard at all, I changed mine a few times. the first, Thestock muffler rusted through the bottomand i replaced it with an after marketmuffler, theni put a cherry bomb on it because my buddie gave er' to me. but one of the clamps were not tight enough and it fell off and couldn't find it, so i ended up putting the after market back on. all you need is exhaust clamps, the muffler bracket that holds it up, andthe muffler it's self. oh, and a few sockets for the bracket bolt, and for the clamps.

Yeah... At the time I was really hurting for cash so I went the cheap way. The only thing that sucks about it is when I go to replace the muffler with one that's not so rust-ridden, I'm going to have to buy new brackets anyways. lol
