Default Odometer rollback after alternator failure V6

Anyone have this happen? Odometer rolled back like 34000 miles when the power failed. It doesn't bother me personally, but I rent these cars on Turo, so it's dead in the water with them unless I can fix it. Thanks! 😁

I've never heard of that happen as mileage should be stored in the bcm.

Yes. It's going up from where it dropped back to. Chevy dealership never heard it before either.

I'd love to know what's going to happen when you renew your registration and this year's mileage is less than last year's.

When it comes down to it, it's all ones and zeros. Pull the plug, hope they all stay the same.

I'm willing to bet you have a defective memory chip in your BCM. I hope the following is not true but it may be a sign that the BCM is starting to fail, as one of the telltale signs of BCM failure in Saturn's is that the mileage jumps up to 600,000

Over 10 years old. Mileage exempt. No state inspections. No worries there. 😁

I've read about the guy that jumped to 600k, but never read anything about it going backwards. Will have to read about what to expect if the BCM fails.

Indeed, I have never heard of anyone rolling backwards. You may be the needle in the haystack.

When the BCM starts to fail you may have issues with passlock 2 and often the warning lights on the dash light up like a Christmas tree all at once. Stuff that has always worked behaves as if possessed. Remote entry gets pissy but false security triggering since a lot of these vehicles to their grave because a new BCM or even a reflashed BCM is usually worth about as much as the car when it fails. You cannot cure it separately as the logic is integrated into the BCM.

Would have been fine if they had done it right. Likely, a $0.09 memory chip was used instead of the $0.15 memory chip with 42 * the reliability.. and leave a back door for the security failure mode Ford dealers to salvage the remaining life out of the cars. As usual I digress.
