Hello, I’m currently in quite a conundrum. I have a 2007 Saturn vue the currently has an issue with the left driver side headlight bulbs. I completely replaced the entire assembly/bulbs on both sides (did a few other repairs too ,the driver side was cosmetically damaged in a MVA twice same spot/side) atleast I thought it was only cosmetic until this.. my low beam bulb is dim even after replacement and my turning signal blinks at a pretty fast pace and the high beam completely does not work. ONLY on the driver side. passenger side has no issues with bulbs/connectors before and after replacement. I used a multimeter and read the bulb connectors the low beam read 10.5 as well as the turning signal and the high beam read 0.0 I tried checking the relays in the fuse box (not sure if I read it completely right) wiring is not my forte. I know I have to trace the wiring within the harness to the ‘load’ but I’m not sure where that’s completely located and I can’t find a wiring diagram for the life of me (I also don’t own a shop and doing this all in my backyard) so it’s not like I can just put it on a lift/dismantle it. Other words I’m in dire need of a bit of help to figure out where the problem could be located in the wiring and how to locate it properly and replace it! Thank you so much for any suggestions or advice given! I’m new in the automotive world so bare with me lol.. Multimeter I used
I'm attaching links to wiring diagrams for the headlights and the turn signals. If you find these challenging (it's not easy to read them), try to find a friend to help. (Of note, a rapid flashing turn signal usually means another bulb on the same circuit is out. See if the rear turn signal lamp is flashing.)
Response to thread: (thank you for any and all help I really do appreciate it!)
Not too sure how to use this website yet I do apologize if I double posted or not replying correctly!
so I replaced the entire headlight and bulbs pics are below, ⬇️
I used the multimeter to read the voltages coming to those connectors/wires, the low beams and turning signals 10.5 and the high beams were 0.0
the right passenger side is completely fine no issues with high beam low beam or turn signal.
I am not sure how to find where in the wiring there is an issue at I do understand I have to trace the wiring and if there is visible damage/corrosion then I replace to that point. I just don’t know where and how to trace these wires I’ve never really dealt with wiring issues (im new in automotive)
and I’m not sure how to properly fix it don’t want to be a parts cannon and start buying things I don’t need lol thank you so much for giving your time to help out !
and thank you for those diagrams as well you are right they are quite hard to read lol! And the rear signals work fine as well. The car was in a MVA and hit twice on the front driver side, that’s why I’m assuming the wiring issues are only within that area and considering that’s the only side giving issues!
Old headlight is on hood , I replaced the whole piece with a new set of headlights for both sides (new ones I put in the car) I replaced bulbs too, the ones laying on the hood and in my hand are the new bulbs The connectors (or these wires if I’m incorrect) I have not replaced
As I'm sure you're aware, wiring diagrams are very symbolic - they do not show the relative lengths, locations, etc of the wires themselves. Just the starting and ending point, the colors, and the pins of the connectors they're attached to. Not something I, or anyone, can teach you in a forum. You either need to find a friend who can, or consult a mechanic.
I believe you are correct in assuming you have a broken wire somewhere in the left headlight wiring. I do not believe it's a ground problem because all four headlights (and the DRLs) use the same grounding point.
If nothing else, literally visually trace the wires, starting with the high beams, from the high beam bulb connector backwards, and back, and further, and back, etc until you find the defect. You may need to open taped wiring harnesses. The easiest safest way to do that is with a snipper or seam ripper that cuts along the length direction of The wire. Take your time while doing this and you will not damage anything further. You do not know wherein the issue lies.
There is also a possibility that the issue lies inside the body control module which has internal switches that close when requested, completing circuits and allowing the current to flow.
I don't know where the BCM is on your car. Do you? Many are now mounted near the battery on the front left under the hood, so it could be a connection at the BCM or something inside the BCM. But by tracing the wires visually from the headlamp to the BCM, you will either find defective wiring or not and that is part of the diagnostic procedure.
Thank you so so so much for dummying it out for me! I clearly have a lot of homework especially diagram study work lol!! And the BCM is I believe located below the radio near/under the dash cluster in the center of the car ! I believe so I could be wrong.
You will find it wherever it is. I was simply guessing.
And I didn't dummy it for you. That's not something I do.
You are completely capable of solving this either on your own or with a Little help from us. A lot of it has to do with confidence. You're not going to break anything.
