Default DIC does not show compass direction

I've only had this 08 saturn vue xr for a couple of months but I thought the DIC (drivers information center) did display the compass direction when I first got the car. Now it does not display. I've tried getting it to but can't seem to figure it out. I've followed the directions to calibrate the compass and can't get that to work as well. Has anyone else had this issue and resolbed it. The DIC does display temp, trip A, trip B. Any help would be appreciated.

Please fill in your make model on mileage in your signature from the control panel on the forum

Quite a few new members as of late and I have not been stressing it. Makes everyone's life easier.

Thanks.

I just picked up an 08 Vue XR two days ago, and I don't see the compass in my DIC either. Just Odometer and Trip A/B. I wonder if there is a fuse just for the compass function somewhere...

From the 2008 VUE owners manual:

Since it is not showing a direction, there is likely a strong magnetic field interacting with it. I'm willing to bet it is a magnetic mound for your cell phone or a wireless charging pad attached to the instrument panel or the top of the dash. Unfortunately, I have no idea where the actual compass is located within the vehicle, so this is where my help ends. The manual also has directions on how to recalibrate it once you get the magnetic field to stop interfering with the compass

Hmm, I just got a copy of the owner's manual and found the Compass section. Thank you, I'll try to find an open field somewhere outside of suburbia, lol.

It's more likely to be a strong magnet in your car like a magnetic phone mount that holds your phone or a wireless charging setup which creates a large magnetic field in order to induce a charging current in the battery.

If it never indicates direction, it can't be the entire area in which you drive. Look inside the vehicle for magnetic things as mentioned above

Mine also shows outside tempature but it has never shown the compass reading since I purchased it in 3/23. I don't recall see a 're-calibrate' message either in it.
